Traditional and technology happily coexist in this coplete renovation of a Victoria Home. Preserving the structure's historical character without sacrifing modern convenience was the challenge for designer Chris Dreith, of The Home Improvements Groups.
To reint the home's historic charm, Dreith incorporated a number of features commonly found in 19th-century kitchens and gave them a modernist twist. She created a focal point by placing a 10-foot antique stained-glass dome in the ceiling. The inverted bowl reigns over the dual islands adorned with granite countertops and a period sink. The island, anchoring the kitchen's expanse of oak and mahogany floor, create additional room for provides a serving area adjacent to a pair of stunning French doors replatewith leaded and beveled glass.
Period workstation furniture from YesterTec accommodates and conceals high-tech appliances. The rich character of cherry and mohogany complements Traditional and Technology a Victorian Mansion the home's historic features. Ambient lighting across the tops of the tall furniture provides a staging area for a collection of heirlooms and art pieces.
Appliances were selected to facilitate meal preparation and food and utensil storage. A state-of-the-art oven and microwave are hidden behind unobtrusive pocket doors that slide into the patented UL approved workstation, simultaneously triggering an internal electrical system to activate the ovens. Custom-designed punched-tin panels embellish the central piece's pocket doors, providing winsome historic flair.
